Akron Northside Interceptor Tunnel

Scope:

The Northside Interceptor Tunnel Project involves constructing a 16.5-foot diameter tunnel as part of the EPA-mandated Consent Decree, initiated in 2014 to improve the City’s sewer infrastructure and mitigate combined sewer overflows (CSOs). The tunnel, stretching 6,660 feet underground, will collect and store CSOs from four locations along the Cuyahoga River, effectively eliminating overflows and saving $40 million compared to the initial 24-foot proposal. Upon completion, the project will reduce CSO and Water Reclamation Facility Secondary Bypass by over 2 billion gallons, capturing and treating 99% of wet weather flows and reducing CSO events by 99.7%.

Services:

CSS was retained to provide scheduling services for the Northside Interceptor Tunnel Project, on of Akron’s’ final projects of the EPA mandated Consent Decree.
